Spend time online with your children to familiarize yourself with the sites/services they are interested in

Talk to your children about the dangers of the internet

Keep the computer in a common area of the house

Set time limits for computer use. Both length of time on the computer and the time of day

Take advantage of parental control software available

Monitor your child's e-mail and text messaging habits

Teach your children to share their internet experiences - especially those in which they feel uncomfortable

Report any inappropriate internet activity to your local law enforcement agency and/or to the national reporting site, www.cybertipline.com, or call the Cyber Tipline at 1-800-843-5678

Execute the Computer Safety Contract which outlines all of the rules and responsibilities for safe computer usage
